I've had this little kewpie doll (along with her sister) for years but packed away.  Going through stuff I found them and decided to try adding one to a painting.  I spent hours and days, along with many photos figuring out the set up, which took longer than the painting (lol).  This little girl looks like she is out for an adventure after all those years cooped up in a box, we have a lot in common I think.  So all aboard for the Elephant Express, may your imagination take you to amazing places! 

I use professional acrylic paints in all my acrylic paintings for permanence and longevity.

Yesterday I painted with my plein air group, painting on location at a friends house using my watercolors.  I haven't played with watercolors for probably two years so it was nice getting them out.  The negative spaces of this white painted bike against the green foliage inspired me.  I love negative space, which is the space around the subject matter, it can also include spaces within like the space within the wheels.  Lots of my plein air experiences don't turn out but I feel good about this little painting.

Paintings are sold unframed.  This painting could be cropped to a standard size of 6x8 inches and with a two inch mat would fit an 8x10 frame.

Under A Lace Umbrella

This painting idea all started because of a fun lacy umbrella I found at a flea market in California.  My grand daughter who visited this past summer was the model and who did not want to pose for me especially not dressed up, she is 15, posing is definitely not on her "cool" radar.  However I promised a modeling fee and worked fast trying to catch a pose.  Having lots of lacy blouses was not a problem but I had to be imaginative for the skirt, grabbing a lace table cloth and wrapping it around her jeans.  She also was prone to slouching which didn't work with the pose and I had to remind her to sit up; in past times it was not considered lady like to slouch, maybe corsets had a little to do with it (slouch and you can't breath).  Anyway I can't imagine life without jeans!  And corsets, pure torture but didn't the women look good?  

Due to the limitations and inconsistencies of various display monitors, the colors you see on your screen may not be a totally accurate reproduction of the actual painting but I work to get the best likeness possible.

I found this old Chevy Van in front of an ice cream shop in Door County, Wisconsin last fall while attending a painting workshop.  I loved the photo and had to paint it as I love all kinds of vintage subject matter.  The license plate on the vehicle just made me smile since it was sitting in front of the ice cream shop.
